How to Combat Spiritual Burnout

You would think that a Lightworker, someone who helps others heal, would know when to heal themselves. Or even know when to take a break. If you’re reading these words, you know this is a myth.

This seems so obvious. You tell yourself to rest, relax, and take time out to do something pleasurable, even if it involves copious naps. Yet you fall into the familiar patterns of stress.

Lightworker, heal thyself.

Rejuvenation is essential if you’re to fulfill the mission you have accepted in this life. If you don’t take care of yourself, you are useless to everyone else. This fact isn’t shameful, it’s truth.

Burnout is a common affliction of Lightworkers but it can consume anyone.

Here are three signs that you’ve had enough:

  1. Bad moods all the time. You are such a crabby bear that you can’t stand to be around yourself.
  2. Exhaustion of the crippling variety. You can’t seem to motivate yourself to move beyond the 3-dimensional work you do and sometimes not even that.
  3. Illness regularly. This isn’t the common cold once a winter. This is one illness after another, and you don’t quite recover.

There are other signs, but these are the most obvious. Honestly, don’t push yourself to the point of item three. Once you hit item one, it’s time to stop and reflect on how you’re pushing yourself and why.

Here are three reasons you’ve done this to yourself:

  1. Guilt. Insidious, it rides just beneath the surface of your awareness because you want to share your light with those who wander in the dark.
  2. Martyrdom. You want to save the world. You must rescue everyone from themselves and they seem hell-bent on self-destruction.
  3. Arrogance. Only you can do what you do. Ahem. Check that super-specialness at the door, honey. We are all amazing and there is plenty of special to go around.

Consider your motivations for pushing yourself to the brink of catastrophe. You can’t do this to yourself and expect to function at optimal levels. Guilt, martyrdom, and arrogance are ingredients for failure.

Lightworker, heal thyself.

Here are three ways you can undo the damage:

  1. Drink water. We both know you’re not drinking enough of this precious elixir. Even I’m not doing what I’m preaching, but I thought you should know that this is important.
  2. Get plenty of rest. No, your boss cannot call you at 2 a.m (unless you work third shift so make it 2 p.m.). Turn off that phone.
  3. Honor your boundaries. Make time for you in your schedule. Between the work that pays the bills, your family, and your light work, time is a precious commodity and so are your skills. Read this post about how to kindly say no.

Burnout is a common affliction of Lightworkers but it can consume anyone. Recognize the signs, because you are fast approaching self-immolation. Question your underlying motivation whether it be guilt, martyrdom, arrogance, or something else not addressed here.

Most importantly, mitigate the damage. Compromising your AWESOMENESS in the 3-D world is tantamount to drinking a bottle of whiskey, smoking a pack of cigarettes, and eating processed foods on the daily. Kick yourself in the butt and start with one of the three self-care items.

You know what you do, what you do to yourself, and why you should and shouldn’t do the things that you do. Sometimes you need a reminder that you are Loved. Yes, sweetheart. Every. Single. One. of us here at Re-Source loves you. We’re looking out for you because you are US.

And we take care of our own.

Aman Nai. Namaste. Peace Be With You.
